Welcome to Feast & Flourish

I have always loved eating! Growing up, all of the women in my life could cook. My Grandma Mary made the very best spaghetti, and to this day, spaghetti is still my favorite food. My mom was — and still is — a great cook. She gave me my love for sweet rice. You can eat it with just about anything: as a breakfast side with eggs, sausage, and biscuits, or with dinner alongside fried gizzards or smothered hamburger steak.
My Aunt Bridgett makes the best Thanksgiving dressing in the world, and I still haven’t gotten the recipe from her yet.
It wasn’t until I moved out on my own that I truly learned how to cook, but it didn’t take long for me to figure it out. Cooking feels embedded in my soul, and good food makes it dance.
There was a time when I wouldn’t consider anything a meal if it didn’t include some kind of meat. Now, that thought makes me chuckle a little.
A few years ago, my husband and I decided to become vegan. We made that decision for two reasons:
- We watched a documentary about how animals are mass-produced, and it was deeply disturbing.
- We wanted to eat healthier so we could feel healthier.
We got tired of eating meals that left us overly full and sluggish all the time.
Being vegan was difficult at first, but it was completely worth it. It changed the way I think about food and forced me out of my comfort zone to try new things. We experienced more flavors in those three years than we had in our entire lives before that.
Even though I’m not vegan anymore, I still don’t eat meat the way I used to, and I try very hard to stay away from dairy products.
Food is so much more than just taste. It’s fuel. It’s nourishment. It’s medicine for our bodies.
Food should energize you, not leave you feeling sleepy and drained.
Now, don’t get me wrong — I am definitely not someone who eats perfectly all the time. Some days I eat really well, and other days I indulge in a whole lot of junk food. I have a sweet tooth that keeps me in a chokehold!
My mission is simple: I want to encourage moms to make manageable, fun, and meaningful changes over time.
Feeding our families is a lifelong journey, and no two journeys look the same. It’s not linear — it’s more like a zigzag — and honestly, that’s what makes it beautiful.
So, as you follow me on this journey, I hope you feel motivated, inspired, encouraged, and excited.
This is not a place for shame or guilt.
We are all moms doing the very best we can, and every day looks a little different.
We’ve got this.
With love and good food,
Destiney
